SEALING UP YOUR HOME
Part 1
Where should you start? I would suggest the lowest point of you Home the basement or crawler space sealing leak here will stop the Chimney Effect, that is when cold air is pulled in leaks in the basement that happens when hot air raises through leaks in the attic. The best way to find these leaks in your crawl space would be to get in the crawl space and close of the access door and shut off all lights then look for the cracks they should be easy to find in the dark because light will be shining in though the cracks. I would suggest using expanding foam to seal all the cracks that you find. Then look for more opening or crack using a flashlight and seal the off. Then I would recommend getting a good Silicone caulk and seal the outside and inside seal plate and Rim Joists. Now It is time to install insulation and vapor barrier on the outer walls and floor. There are many great Products out there to achieve this I would recommend one with a reflective aluminum foil on each side of a closed-cell polyethylene foam center, the reflective Aluminum foil will help keep your crawler space cool in the summer and warm in the winter Saving on your energy bill. Check back for part 2 of sealing up you home.
